Challenge

As a global technology leader, Dell EMC faced the challenge of managing the returns process for the material being returned due to several factors – tech refresh, swap/trade, loaner/evaluation, or lease equipment event. The returned material needs to be stored and contains sensitive customer data and is losing value while awaiting disposition from Wisetek’s manufacturing team.

Dedicated RMA FacilitiesThe ever-increasing growth within the tech sector has led to increased returns of Storage arrays. Wisetek identified an opportunity to support Dell EMC on their reverse logistics program by setting up a dedicated facility and system to manage the end-to-end returns process
- Asset Disposition – Wisetek worked with Dell EMC Planning and Engineering to create an immediate systemized disposition process, thus eliminating the need to store material while it awaits processing/re-use decisions
- Secure Facilities and Data Destruction – All material once receipted on Wisetek’s systems goes through a process to eliminate all customer data in accordance with NIST800-88.

Unlocking Opportunities for Re-Use

Given the vast variance in products; unlocking the opportunity for re-use was key to success.
- Recovery for Re-Use – Wisetek Engineering and Planning teams focused on ensuring that all systems and parts that we could recover, would undergo a full suite of tests, refurbishment, and quality checks. This enabled the material to be re-used effectively within the Dell EMC manufacturing or service parts supply chain.
- Collaboration – The collaboration between Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering groups, meant that the buy-in from all departments created an opportunity for the program to be a major success for both Dell EMC and Wisetek.

- Eco-Friendly Disposal – Minimizing electronic waste through responsible disposal methods and partnerships with certified recycling facilities.
