The Benefits of Wisetek’s Remote IT Service
As the effects of Covid-19 on the workplace are set to be with us for the long haul, the necessity of a structured Remote IT service is essential.
It’s safe to say – the novelty of working from home is over. We’ve had almost a year of remote working and while we’ve all got to grips with Zoom and MS Teams from our impromptu home offices, the prospect of working from home for the foreseeable future is a HR reality for many people.
When the pandemic took hold, there was a scramble to get people set up and working remotely. Now, with our structures in place, the HR and IT issues which surround such arrangements are starting to bite.
How organisations are supporting their staff varies from company to company, yet it generally covers two areas: hardware, such as devices, and working culture, such as breaktimes, and attempts to foster a sense of ‘community’.
How companies treat their employees in these regards will be an important HR and health and safety issue in the coming years.
IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and Company Hardware
From a hardware perspective, laptops, PCs, and monitors are essential items for all employees and were the first devices shipped to home offices once the pandemic started or when people started working for a new company.
A year ago, most organisations were desperate to keep their businesses up and running, and so they dispatched their staff with their devices, but without thinking of the consequences of having a large amount of corporate property in peoples’ homes.
Now, a year later – and a year which has seen untold upheaval in terms of employment – HR and IT departments are struggling to service their remote workforce.
New Staff, New Costs
The notion of the ‘IT guy’ is familiar to all companies and was a universal presence wandering the corridors of organisations setting people up with their devices. Yet if those people are spread in a potentially vast area – thanks to remote working, colleagues can live further afield – the logistics of servicing remote IT assets is a new cost that has been added to organisations.
Most companies are not used to managing logistic services around the hardware needs of their staff which is why it’s become so expensive for organisations to address this cost. And likewise, it would not be worth their while to set up a logistics network and team as it wouldn’t be in use every day. In many ways, it’s a classic corporate catch 22.
Wisetek’s Remote IT Service
From an IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) strategy, it’s essential to view all company property, whether it’s in your office or in an employee’s home, in the same light, especially when it comes to both the hardware and data security of the devices.
In a practical sense, this means that you should view an employee’s home as almost an extension of the office and the devices should be shipped back and forth in a secure and traceable manner. Sending laptops off in taxis or in the back of random employees’ cars may be a short-term fix, but it’s not how you should service a remote workforce.
Wisetek has developed a Remote IT Service to precisely address these issues and more. With our logistics expertise, we are well positioned to work with HR and IT departments to pick up and drop off IT equipment, in a secure, safe, and reliable way.
Our service has a number of key steps:
- Our returntek.com portal allows clients to request a ‘box’ in which their IT asset will be placed.
- We confirm and then arrange a schedule with the client.
- We drop off the box and collect the IT asset, which is tracked in our portal.
- The IT asset is taken for internal processing at Wisetek and the chain of custody is completed.
- We securely wipe the data.
Once the data is wiped and the IT asset is clean, the client can either redeploy, remarket, re-use, or recycle it, depending of course, on its condition and its corresponding value.
When this part of the process is finished, through our portal the customer can view their reports and certificates relating to the specific IT asset.
From our customer’s perspective, what is unique about this service is our truly global reach. Simply put, we can service customers in most geographical locations and offer the same level of security and transparency.
Remote working certainly has its challenges and costs. By using our Remote IT Service, organisations can lower the cost of collecting IT assets, while benefiting from the savings which are built into our associated services too.
